It was decided to extend the BIPM-TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements" program, which was implemented in cooperation with TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM, for another 2 years.
Following the successful completion of the 2021 period of the "BIPM-TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements" program, which started in 2018 in cooperation with TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM (International Bureau of Weights and Measures), it was decided to extend the program for another 2 years for the 2022 and 2023 periods.
TÜBİTAK UME provided training in different metrology fields for 37 young staff of developing country institutes for 1 to 3 months for 4 semesters in order to contribute to the integration of the participating researchers' institutes, and thus their countries, into the international system.
The program, which also means the acceptance of TÜBİTAK UME's competence in the metrology world and focuses on helping young technical staff to achieve their project goals, also aimed to provide a wider benefit by allowing participants to improve their technical skills.
After the successful completion of the 2018 and 2019 periods of the program with the participation of 20 researchers, it was decided to extend the program for another 2 years upon the request of BIPM. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 7 researchers from Belarus, South Africa, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Saudi Arabia, out of the 10 researchers who were eligible to participate in the program in 2020, were able to participate in the program on-site, and the training program was completed earlier than planned due to the aggravation of pandemic conditions.
As a result of the evaluation made for the 2021 period of the program, 10 researchers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Philippines, Kenya, Colombia, Russia, Sudan, Thailand and Tunisia were entitled to receive on-site training in metrology for 1 to 3 months and the training program was organized despite the COVID-19 pandemic conditions.
After 4 years of success, the application phase for the 2022 period of the program, which was extended for 2 more years in line with the official request from BIPM, was opened on February 8, 2022. After the evaluations and selection of researchers, the program is planned to start in September 2022.
The success of this training program, which has made an extraordinary contribution to the integration of developing country institutes into the international system and has been carried out jointly with BIPM for 4 years, has an important prestige value in terms of consolidating TÜBİTAK UME's place in the "league of champions" category of the metrology world.
