A bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute and Iran Metrology Center-Iran National Standardization Organization on 19 July 2022.

The agreement, which was registered by Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and President of the National Standards Organization of Iran Mahdi Eslampanah at the 7th Meeting of the Turkey-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council held under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi, covers the cooperation of activities in the field of metrology in Turkey and Iran.

The agreement, which includes the implementation of joint projects on the establishment of new infrastructures and the development of existing infrastructures in the fields of physics, mechanics, electricity and chemistry, especially in accordance with today's conditions, also aims to provide support for the integration of metrology activities in Iran into the world metrology system, and to implement studies such as comparing national measurement standards and ensuring metrological traceability.

The studies to be carried out will not be limited to traditional measurement fields, but will also cover quantum metrology, nanotechnology and biometrology if needed.

In particular, activities to provide metrological support for the production of halal products and their introduction to the market after testing and certification activities will be prioritized among the activities to be carried out within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding. These activities are planned to be carried out in cooperation with the Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC), of which both countries are members, and in coordination with the SMIIC Metrology Council.

Organizing joint trainings, meetings, workshops and conferences in the field of metrology and thus training human resources in the field of metrology are also among the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding.
