The Power and Energy Laboratory is responsible for integrating AC power and energy measurements, as well as AC voltage and AC current ratio measurements performed within the country, into the international metrology system. To achieve this goal, the laboratory carries out activities such as establishing and maintaining national standards, ensuring international recognition of measurement accuracy through international comparison measurements, transferring traceability to national standards to secondary and lower-level laboratories within the country via calibration services, and conducting R&D projects in line with national needs. In the laboratory, AC power and energy measurements can be performed in the ranges of 30 V to 500 V for voltage, 0.01 A to 120 A for current, and 45 Hz to 70 Hz for frequency, with an uncertainty value of 22 ppm. The AC power and energy measurement capabilities can be extended up to 10 kA using AC current ratio measurement systems and up to 200 kV using AC voltage ratio measurement systems. AC power and energy measurements, along with related power quality measurements, are performed at the primary level using the AC Power Measurement Standard, also referred to as the “Digital Sampling Wattmeter.” AC current ratio measurements are conducted using a reference current comparator and a current transformer comparison bridge, while AC voltage ratio measurements are carried out using standard capacitors and a capacitance comparison bridge. The AC power accuracy obtained through the AC Power Measurement Standard is transferred via calibration to the power measurement instruments available in the laboratory and, in turn, to customer devices. Similarly, the AC current ratio accuracy obtained using the reference current comparator and the AC voltage ratio accuracy obtained using standard capacitors are transferred to the current and voltage transformers in the laboratory, and through these devices, to customer instruments.
In the Power and Energy Laboratory, ongoing efforts include the design of reference instruments and the development of software to expand the scope of power quality measurement systems. Similarly, the design of sensors and measurement systems is underway to extend the measurement capabilities of AC current and voltage ratio measurement systems from the grid frequency up to the 9 kHz frequency band. In addition, the design of DC power and energy measurement systems is being developed to ensure the legal and metrological traceability of electric vehicle charging stations, and further work is being carried out to meet this need both in the laboratory and in the field.
