UME
Bioanalysis Laboratory
About Us
TÜBİTAK UME Bioanalysis Laboratory establishes cooperation with relevant institutions and organizations, provides support and carries out the necessary studies for the accurate and reliable execution of industrial, legal and scientific activities in the field of biometrology at national and international level.
Areas of Activity and Services
Nucleic Acid Working Group
The laboratory performs measurements with high accuracy and low uncertainty in DNA and RNA analysis. Study topics include:
Determination of the amount of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in agricultural products by digital PCR (dPCR) method
Species determination in meat and gelatin (veal, pig, horse, camel, sheep, goat, chicken, duck, salmon)
Reference material production and proficiency testing for halal certification analysis
Determination of DNA mutations, methylated DNA and RNA transcript levels in cancerous tissues and liquid biopsy samples
These studies provide important reference measurements in the fields of food safety, halal certification and genetic analysis.
Protein Analysis Working Group
The laboratory performs high-accuracy measurements in the field of proteomics with advanced technologies such as LC-MS/MS, HPLC and ELISA. Study topics:
Complex proteome analysis and relative quantification (LFQ-TMT)
Identification of protein modifications (methylation, acetylation, phosphorylation, etc.)
Peptide fragmentation (HCD-based)
Determination of enzyme activities
Production of certified reference materials for clinical laboratories
These services aim to improve the accuracy and comparability of medical tests used in the diagnosis of many pathologies such as cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, sepsis, diabetes and kidney diseases.
Cell-Based Research
The laboratory develops new methods for the characterization and enumeration of different cell types such as stem cells, blood cells and cancer cells. Cell analysis is performed using advanced instruments such as microscopy and flow cytometry. These studies contribute to diagnosis, research and quality control processes at the cellular level.

The project is a TUBITAK supported bilateral research project with foreign partners. It aims to develop an international standard measurement system for gene methylation measurements in collaboration with metrology institutes in Turkey and South Korea. Gene measurements have started to be used in early diagnosis of cancer. (Completed)
It is aimed to develop aptamers that can be used in biosensors to be produced for faster and out-of-hospital diagnosis of tuberculosis. (Completed)

Organ transplantation preservation fluids are used to preserve organs before transplantation and during this process, many molecules such as enzymes and proteins are transferred from organs to the preservation fluid. In this project, the proteins that pass from kidney and liver to the preservation fluid are examined by two different methods; two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE)-MALDI-TOF studies are carried out by TÜBİTAK UME and LC-MS/MS studies are carried out by TÜBİTAK MAM GMBE (Institute of Gene Engineering and Biotechnology). (Completed)
