The Gulf Metrology Forum was held for the first time in Doha, Qatar on 14-15 December 2015, organized by the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultancy (GOIC), Qatar Ministry of Environment, Gulf States Metrology Association (GULFMET), Gulf Cooperation Organization (GCC) and Qatar Standards and Metrology Society (QS).
TUBITAK UME was represented by Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ, Director of the Institute, who also made a presentation on the historical development of the institute at the forum, which was organized to provide information and experience sharing among managers, experts, researchers and technical personnel directly related to the field of metrology in the world and the Gulf region.
The International Bureau of Weights and Measures, the heart of metrology organizations around the world (BIPM) Dr. Martin MILTON, Director, Asia Pacific Metrology Association (APMP) President Dr. Peter FISK, International Bureau of Legal Metrology (BIML) Director Dr. Stephen PATORAY and a representative of the Korea Research Institute for Science and Standards gave speeches on global advances in metrology.
The future of metrology, new metrology fields such as medical, biology, environment, nanotechnologies, metrology and quality applications, metrology in the oil and gas industry and other key sectors, the impact of legal metrology on society and metrology best practices from different countries were discussed at the forum, which was attended by senior managers and experts from the organizing institutions.
International cooperation for the promotion and development of metrology, coordination of metrology activities within the GCC, and the development of appropriate legal, legislative and scientific grounds in this field were also discussed at the forum, where workshops and discussion panels on various topics were organized simultaneously.
The Gulf Metrology Forum is of great importance in terms of establishing contacts for establishing new collaborations in the field of metrology in the region.
