TUBITAK UME was accepted as a full member of the Consultative Committee on Mass and Derived Measures (CCM) of the International Committee on Weights and Measures (CIPM).

The 112th CIPM meeting approved the application of TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute, which has been an official observer member for more than 20 years, to become an official full member.

This decision means the confirmation that UME is actively involved in internationally recognized scientific projects and activities in the main activity groups under CCM. One of these projects is the development of the Kibble Balance, a metrological tool that can define the kilogram mass unit based on the Planck fundamental physical constant.

In addition to its advantages such as closely following the developments in this field, contributing to the flow of information and benefiting from this flow, CCM's original membership is also of great importance in terms of taking part in the decision-making mechanism on issues such as which research will be emphasized and the evaluation of new methods.

Founded in 1980, the CCM is the world's most authoritative committee guiding all work and decisions in the field of Mass and Derived Magnitudes, with 27 full members and 4 official observer members. Under the CCM, there are 8 working groups including Fluid, Gravimetry, Mass, Strategy and Coordination of Joint Recognition Agreement, Density and Viscosity, Force and Torque, Hardness, Pressure and Vacuum, and a task group on dissemination after the redefinition of the unit of mass.

During the process of applying for full membership to CCM, a written report was sent to CCM, including the scientific activities of TÜBİTAK UME in the fields of Mass, Vacuum, Pressure, Force, Torque, Hardness, Liquid and Gaseous Fluids, Solid and Liquid Density, Liquid Volume, Gravimetry, including the key comparisons requested and participated in, all national and international projects and scientific journal articles that make a significant contribution to the activities of CCM. In addition, an oral presentation about the written report was made to the participants at the 19th CCM meeting held on 25-26 May 2023.

CIPM Advisory Committees operate to provide expertise on technical issues related to metrology, to provide a basis for international exchange and cooperation in metrology and to contribute to the harmonization of measurements on a global scale by promoting the traceability of national measurement standards to the international system of units.

Membership of the advisory committees, which is not only an indicator of advanced level in the field of Scientific Metrology, but also has a significant value in terms of prestige, is only open to the most internationally recognized metrology institutes and laboratories that have significant scientific studies in their field, have been able to prove their measurement capabilities through international comparisons.

TÜBİTAK UME, which is among the world's leading metrology institutes with the number of committees it is a member of, has further reinforced its prestigious place in the world metrology ecosystem with this success.
