Dr. S. Temel YALÇIN, one of the former directors of our Institute, passed away on December 15, 2020.
Prof. Dr. S. Temel YALÇIN was one of the pioneers of metrology studies in our country and also pioneered the establishment of the EMC TEMPEST Test Center at the National Electronics and Cryptology Research Institute.
In 1965, Dr. S. Temel YALÇIN graduated from Ankara University, Department of Physics and completed his PhD at Nottingham University in England. Following his return home, Dr. S. Temel YALÇIN started to work at TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, where he participated in the establishment of the National Metrology Institute in the Physics Department and carried out valuable studies in many fields, especially in the field of acoustics.
In 1991, Dr. S. Temel YALÇIN retired from the institution and in 1994, he returned to the institution and started working as the Deputy Director of the National Research Institute for Electronics and Cryptology (UEKAE), where he developed a project in the field of TEMPEST and Electromagnetic Compatibility to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and introduced our country to the concept of TEMPEST (electromagnetic information leakage).
The EMC TEMPEST Test Center (ETTM) established in this context was the first test laboratory to be accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK).
In 2004, Dr. S. Temel Yalçın was appointed as Deputy Director of the National Metrology Institute and retired in 2008. We wish God's mercy to Dr. S. Temel Yalçın, who served in important services under the umbrella of TÜBİTAK, and our condolences to his grieving family, relatives and loved ones.
