7 New Metrology Laboratories Opened in Azerbaijan

The opening of 7 new metrology laboratories at the Azerbaijan Metrology Institute was held with a ceremony on September 10, 2025. Within the scope of the project signed between TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute (UME) and Azerbaijan Metrology Institute (AzMI) on December 26, 2023, all 12 modern laboratories were successfully put into service. In the first phase of the project, 5 laboratories became operational on November 15, 2024, and in the second phase, 7 new laboratories became operational on September 10, 2025. Thus; Hardness, Volume, Medical Metrology, Moisture, Time and Frequency, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Photometry, Force, Dimensional, Wavelength, Impedance and RF & Microwave measurement and calibration infrastructures were established and integrated into the international metrology system.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ, Director of TÜBİTAK UME.

In the speeches, the strategic importance of metrology in scientific, technological and economic development was emphasized. The laboratories will strengthen Azerbaijan's measurement, calibration and quality infrastructure, support industry and university cooperation and provide new employment opportunities for young people.

The 7 new laboratories established by TÜBİTAK UME were visited by the participants and members of the press after the opening ceremony. Thanks to the modern infrastructures, Azerbaijan's measurement and calibration needs in critical sectors such as aviation, space, defense, communication, health, engineering, energy, metallurgy and industry can now be met with the country's resources.
