TÜBİTAK UME participated in the TC-Q (Technical Committee on Quality) and TC-M (Technical Committee on Mass and Derived Units) Meetings organized by GULFMET (Gulf States Metrology Association) in Dubai.
Dr. Enver SADIKOĞLU, Quality Management Representative of TÜBİTAK UME, Saliha TURHAN, Deputy Quality Management Representative, Dr. Sinan FANK, Force Laboratories Supervisor / Mechanical Group Coordinator, and Sevda KAÇMAZ, Mass Laboratories Supervisor, attended the TC-Q and TC-M Meetings held between 31 March and 4 April. During the meeting, TÜBİTAK UME Delegation shared their experiences gained in EURAMET in the execution of technical committee activities. The roadmap to be followed in order for GULFMET to reach the level of regional metrology organizations in Europe, Asia and America and the action plans in this roadmap were determined. In order to support the calibration capabilities of the metrology institutes of GULFMET member countries, it was decided to organize international comparisons in the fields of Mass and Pressure under the coordination of TÜBİTAK UME. In addition, information was exchanged in order to establish effective mechanisms for the review of the quality management systems of metrology institutes from the CIPM (International Committee for Weights and Measures) MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement) requirements.
Workshops on "Interlaboratory Comparisons and Review of Quality Management Systems" were organized together with technical committee meetings. In the workshops with 22 participants from 5 countries, TÜBİTAK UME experts explained the importance of interlaboratory comparisons, the rules of comparison and presented examples of comparisons that TÜBİTAK UME participated in and organized. Practical group studies were carried out to support the theoretical information presented. Information was given about the requirements of quality management systems that a country's metrology institute must have in accordance with CIPM MRA rules and which are subject to regular review. Updates on the procedures applied by different regional metrology organizations for the assessment and review of quality management systems were shared.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between TÜBİTAK UME and GSO (Standardization Organization of the Council of Gulf States) in 2011 for the development of GULFMET and its recognition as a regional metrology organization, and TÜBİTAK UME became an associate member of GULFMET in early 2013.
