On February 13-14, 2018, TÜBİTAK UME hosted the first progress meeting of the project EMPIR inTENSE: Developing Research Capabilities For Traceable Intraocular Pressure Measurements hosted the first progress meeting of the project.

Researchers from the Czech Republic Metrology Institute (CMI), Palacký University Olomouc, German Metrology Institute (PTB), Polish Metrology Institute (GUM), Slovak Metrology Institute (SMU) and Slovak University of Technology participated in this first progress meeting of the project, which aims to ensure the traceability of the devices used in intraocular pressure measurements, to establish a training and center of excellence in this field, to determine the parameters affecting intraocular pressure by theoretical modeling and experiments and to establish international standards on the subject.

At the meeting, where the activities carried out in the first six months of the project were discussed and the research and studies to be carried out in the next period were discussed, presentations made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haji AHMADOV and Dr. Ekrem SINIR informed the participants about the UME Watt-Balance Project and Quantum Metrology Laboratory studies carried out by TÜBİTAK UME for the redefinition of SI units.

During the laboratory visits, Dr. Beste KORUTLU introduced the UME Watt-Balance project experimental setup and Dr. Yasin DURGUT gave information about the FPG system experimental setup used in low pressure measurements. Ideas were exchanged on the organization of comparison measurements in low pressure measurements.

The project, which will enable glaucoma screening tests to be implemented more effectively and measurement devices in this field to have a standardized traceability chain, is expected to be finalized in 2020.
