Within the framework of the Gulf States Standardization Organization / Gulf Metrology Union (GSO/GULFMET) R&D program, it was decided to support TÜBİTAK UME's project on "Development of Transfer Standards for Traceability of Hardness Diamond Tip Calibration Systems".

The other participating countries of the project, which will be implemented by TÜBİTAK UME Hardness Laboratory under the leadership of Cihan KUZU, will be Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen, which are members of GULFMET. This project prepared by TÜBİTAK UME in the field of hardness metrology is also important as it is the first project supported by GSO/GULFMET in the Technical Committee on Mass and Derivative Magnitudes.

Within the scope of the project, transfer standards will be developed, produced and metrological characterizations will be made for the traceability of the systems used in the calibration of the geometric sizes of diamond tips used in hardness measurements. Thus, ensuring the accuracy and continuity of hardness measurements in the Gulf Countries will be ensured for the first time with this project to be carried out by TÜBİTAK UME.

The transfer standards to be developed are planned to be used to ensure the traceability of systems in the Gulf countries.

The project, which has an important prestige value in terms of reinforcing TÜBİTAK UME's leading role among the metrology institutes of the Gulf countries, is expected to be completed by the end of August 2023.
