Prof. Dr. Tanıl KOCAGÖZ gave a seminar on "Transforming Science into Products" at TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus on January 16.
In the seminar, which was held at TÜBİTAK UME and attracted great interest from the campus staff, the necessary conditions for the transformation of inventions into useful products were discussed with a focus on product-oriented research. Information was given about the understanding of education, the importance of cooperation between universities and industry, and entrepreneurship for the transformation of inventions into products. It was emphasized how important products can be created with simple tools.
In his seminar, Prof. Dr. KOCAGÖZ explained the products and processes he developed with his team for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases. Among these products, he gave information about media that enable throat culture results to be obtained in one day instead of two days and antibiotic susceptibility tests to be performed in 4 hours instead of 24 hours, kits that facilitate and accelerate the processing of sputum and stool samples by eliminating the need for centrifugation, an automated culture system developed for the rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis and a traceable electrophoresis system, which is a first in the world.
Prof. Dr. KOCAGÖZ is the Vice Dean of Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology. He is the Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology. In addition to his academic work, he strives for the development of biotechnology in our country. In the biotechnology research organization he founded, Diagnostic Innovative Biotechnology Organization (www.tibobio.org) developed original products for the diagnosis of infectious diseases and obtained patents for them. Among these products produced in Turkey and started to be marketed to many countries, the rapid tuberculosis culture system used in the diagnosis of tuberculosis was supported by the "Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics" established under the leadership of the World Health Organization and won the "Eurowards Turkey" entrepreneurship award. The "Traceable Electrophoresis" system he developed with his research team was awarded the "Akın Çakmakçı, Thesis Turned into an Industrial Product" award by the Turkish Technology Development Foundation "TTGV". Prof. Dr. Tanıl KOCAGÖZ has more than fifty scientific studies published in international refereed journals, national and international patents and various scientific awards.
