TÜBİTAK UME, which has an important place in the field of metrology among the countries in the region and is a founding member of EURAMET, became an associate member of GULFMET (Gulf Countries Metrology Association) established by the member countries of GCC (Gulf Countries Cooperation Organization).

TÜBİTAK UME decided to actively participate in the activities of GULFMET, of which Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Bahrain, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman are members.

TÜBİTAK UME will play a leading role by chairing the Technical Committees on Mass and Derived Units, Quality, Electricity and Temperature, which have been decided to be established by GULFMET, for the first three years. TÜBİTAK UME will also participate in the TC-Q (Quality Technical Committee) and TC-M (Mass and Derived Units Technical Committee) Meetings to be organized by GULFMET in Dubai in April and will take part in the studies planned in this context. In addition, GULFMET will organize an "International Comparison Workshop" in UMMAN in May with the participation of member country representatives. In this workshop, TÜBİTAK UME will contribute to the program of the comparisons to be organized with GULFMET member countries as a pilot laboratory by transferring its experiences about international comparisons and methods.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between TÜBİTAK UME and GSO (Standardization Organization of the Council of Gulf States) in 2011 for the development of GULFMET and its recognition as a regional metrology organization. Following this agreement, on 13-14 June 2012, representatives of GULFMET, including the President of GULFMET and Mohammed Ahmed El Mulla, Director of the Metrology Department of the United Arab Emirates Metrology and Standardization Authority, visited TÜBİTAK UME. During the visit, the scope of cooperation and action plans for GULFMET were discussed and TÜBİTAK UME was invited to become a member of GULFMET.
