TÜBİTAK UME hosted the 3rd annual meeting of the Metrology Committee of the Standardization and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) on 18 January 2016.
At the Metrology Committee Meeting, which was attended by 30 representatives from Albania, Azerbaijan, Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gambia, Guinea, Iran, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Niger, Senegal, Sudan, Sudan and Saudi Arabia, which are also among the members of the Organization for Cooperation of Islamic Countries (OIC), the work carried out especially on funding support, training and project design of certified reference materials for halal foods was discussed.
During the meeting, cooperation in training activities to develop the metrology infrastructures of the member countries and financial support mechanisms that can be used to develop metrology infrastructures were also evaluated; the establishment of traceability chains between the member countries, the necessary conditions for the metrology institutions of the member countries to obtain international recognition and the activities to be organized in 2016 were discussed.
In addition, Islamic Development Bank official Dr. Sabri Er, who was invited to the meeting by TÜBİTAK UME, informed the participants about the "Metrology Development Fund Support" and Gebze Technology University Academician Prof. Dr. Eren SAN informed the participants about the "Metrology Master Program", which TÜBİTAK UME also contributed to the preparation of.
SMIIC was established in 2010 within the Organization for Cooperation of Islamic Countries (OIC), aiming to develop national quality infrastructures in cooperation in order to eliminate incompatibilities in technical issues that constitute an obstacle to trade among Islamic countries.
