Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ) - TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute Project Workshop was held on April 25-28, 2016 at Antalya SUSESI Luxury Resort Hotel.

Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ, Director of TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute, Ercüment ÖZDEMİRCİ, Head of Planning and Strategic Management Department of TEİAŞ, Bilgehan TEKŞUT, R&D Manager of TEİAŞ, as well as more than 100 engineers, technicians and managers from both institutions who implemented the project participated in the workshop where the Project for the Establishment of a Calibration and Test Laboratory for TEİAŞ Electronics and Calibration Laboratory Operations Directorate (EKLİM) was evaluated.

During the workshop, problems encountered during R&D activities were discussed, and sessions were organized on the developed method and metrological device infrastructure and future plans.

The project, which is the subject of the workshop, includes important issues such as accuracy measurements of measurement current and voltage transformers and determination of calibration requirements, calibrators and calibrator calibration system for automatic calibration of power quality analyzers, electromagnetic field measurements, personnel training and the establishment of an accreditation-ready laboratory at TEİAŞ Electronics Laboratory Operations Directorate.

With this project, TEİAŞ became the first institution that can perform its own calibrations in the field of electrical power and energy measurements and provide measurement traceability from TÜBİTAK UME through direct comparisons.

In addition, TEİAŞ will be able to calibrate analyzers at EKLİM Laboratory and 22 Regional Directorates and monitor the power quality on national transmission lines with more precise and reliable measurements.

With the electromagnetic field measurement capability that TEİAŞ gained with the support it received from TÜBİTAK UME with this project, it will be able to perform measurements in areas that emit electromagnetic fields such as high voltage lines, which are considered dangerous to human health, upon complaint or request.

With the electromagnetic field calculation and simulation software used in this project, the most appropriate designs can be realized by calculating the field and its effects on the environment with the preliminary study to be carried out during the planning phase of any transmission line or transformer station.

With the established laboratory, all tests and calibrations to be carried out by TEİAŞ throughout the country will be accepted in the country and abroad with the reliability of TÜRKAK Accreditation Certificate.

2 years into the project, all technical sub-work packages have been completed. Accreditation studies and the establishment of a quality management system are expected to be completed within a few months.

With the completion of all the details of the project, TEİAŞ will be able to make error-free invoicing to the distribution companies to which it sells electrical energy, and will play an active role in ensuring that energy producing companies produce better quality energy.
