Applications for the BIPM - TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements long-term training program, implemented in cooperation with TÜBİTAK UME and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), started on February 18, 2021.
Applications for the 4th term of the program, organized in cooperation with BIPM and TÜBİTAK UME, will continue until April 30, 2021, where participating researchers expressed that they were impressed by TÜBİTAK UME's infrastructure, knowledge and experience and described it as a turning point in their careers.
The program, which started in 2018 in cooperation with TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM and continued successfully for 3 years, was decided to be extended for another 2 years upon the request of BIPM.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 7 of the 10 researchers who were eligible to participate in the program in 2020 were able to participate in the program on-site, and the training program was completed earlier than planned due to the aggravation of pandemic conditions.
In order to contribute to the integration of the participating researchers' institutes and thus their countries into the international metrology system, TÜBİTAK UME provided training in the field of metrology in the institute laboratories for 27 young staff from metrology institutes of developing countries for 1 to 3 months for 3 semesters.
According to the rules, a maximum of 10 candidates from 10 different countries can be accepted at a time. 59 applicants from 23 countries applied for the first cycle of the program, 44 from 18 countries for the second cycle and 46 from 16 countries for the third cycle.
The success of this training program, which has made an extraordinary contribution to the integration of developing country institutes into the international system and has been carried out jointly with BIPM for 3 years, has an important prestige value in terms of consolidating TÜBİTAK UME's place in the "league of champions" category of the metrology world.
