The hybrid training session for the 8th cycle of the 2025 ‘BIPM – TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements’ programme, implemented in collaboration between TÜBİTAK UME and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), was held on 1-2 October 2025.
Anna Cypionka and Chingis Kuanbayev from the BIPM International Relations and Communications Department participated in the hybrid format training, which covered the international metrology system and the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA), which provides an institutional framework for metrology institutes to recognize the equivalence of each other's national measurement standards and calibration certificates.
Before the training, the participants completed the CIPM MRA training modules on the BIPM website and made presentations about the projects they are conducting in TÜBİTAK UME laboratories within the scope of BIPM-TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements.
As a result of the evaluation for the 2025 period, a total of 10 participants from Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Malaysia, Egypt, Norway, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Vietnam were accepted to the program.
In the program, which started on September 1, 2025, 10 participants were trained by TÜBİTAK UME experts in their own research fields between 1 and 3 months, and the training and accommodation expenses of the researchers accepted to the program were covered by TÜBİTAK UME.
The BIPM - TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements Program, which has been successfully carried out since 2018 with the participation of 77 researchers from 43 countries, not only strengthens the cooperation ties established with the metrology institutes of the participating countries, but also gives TÜBİTAK UME a serious impetus to raise the bar in the metrology ecosystem.
The success of this training program, which has made a significant contribution to the integration of developing country institutes into the international system, has an important prestige value in terms of consolidating TÜBİTAK UME's place in the "league of champions" category of the metrology world.
