It was decided to extend the "BIPM-TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements" program, which was implemented in cooperation with TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM, for another 2 years.
Following the successful completion of the 2018 and 2019 periods of the "BIPM-TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements" program, which was implemented in cooperation with TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM (International Bureau of Weights and Measures), it was decided to extend the program for another 2 years upon request from BIPM.
TÜBİTAK UME provided on-site training in the field of metrology for 20 young staff of developing country institutes for 1 to 3 months for 2 semesters in order to contribute to the integration of the participating researchers' institutes and thus their countries into the international system.
The program, which also means the acceptance of TÜBİTAK UME's competence in the metrology world and focuses on helping young technical staff to achieve their project goals, also aimed to provide a wider benefit by allowing participants to improve their technical skills.
In 2018, 59 applications from 23 countries were made to take part in the program, and as a result of the evaluation among the applications, one participant each from Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and Zambia were accepted to the program.
For the 2019 semester, as a result of the evaluation made among 44 applications from 18 countries, one participant each from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania and Uzbekistan were invited to the program.
After 2 years of the program, the duration of the program was extended in line with the official request from BIPM to continue the program for 2020 and 2021 based on the technical opportunities offered to the participants and the requests for the continuation of the program. Applications for the 2020 training period will begin in the coming days.
The success of this training program, which has made an extraordinary contribution to the integration of developing country institutes into the international system and has been carried out jointly with BIPM for 2 years, has an important prestige value in terms of consolidating TÜBİTAK UME's place in the "league of champions" category of the metrology world.
