TÜBİTAK UME, which is the chairman of the Metrology Council of the Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC MC), participated in the 17th SMIIC Board of Directors and 13th General Assembly meetings held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on November 4-5, 2018.
In the meetings where information about the activities of the SMIIC Metrology Council in 2018 was provided, discussions were held on the work carried out in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries on Scientific Metrology and Halal Food Analysis and Certification, future plans and the contributions that Turkey can make.
In the meetings where ideas were exchanged on the possible contributions of the new formations that can be realized in the field of Scientific Metrology, especially under the leadership of TÜBİTAK UME, to the development of the metrology infrastructures of the OIC member countries and joint project opportunities, Turkey's competence for the leadership of these activities and the leadership mission it aspires to undertake were emphasized.
The current situation of Muslim countries in the field of scientific, industrial and legal metrology and the necessary work to make progress in these fields were also discussed at the meeting where the problems experienced in metrology and possible solutions were also evaluated.
SMIIC was established in 2010 within the Organization for Cooperation of Islamic Countries (OIC), aiming to develop national quality infrastructures in cooperation in order to eliminate incompatibilities in technical issues that constitute an obstacle to trade among Islamic countries.
