TÜBİTAK UME Attended 24th SMIIC Board of Directors and 17th General Assembly Meetings

The 24th Board of Directors and 17th General Assembly Meeting of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) was held in Istanbul on November 21-22, 2022.

On behalf of our country, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Mr. Hasan BÜYÜKDEDE, Vice Chairman of SMIIC Board of Directors and President of TSE Mr. Mahmut Sami ŞAHİN, Chairman of SMIIC Metrology Council and Acting Director of TÜBİTAK UME Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ and other delegation members attended the meetings. In addition, approximately 100 participants from a total of 35 countries, including members and observer members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), were present. 

At the Board of Directors Meeting held on 21 November, the Board of Directors unanimously approved the Council Presidency of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ, Deputy Director of TÜBİTAK UME, who was unanimously re-elected as the Council President at the 10th SMIIC Metrology Council meeting held in Istanbul on 16 May 2022. Mr. ÇETİNTAŞ's Presidency of the Metrology Council for 2022-2024 has become official.

In the Board of Directors and General Assembly meetings where the activity reports of the SMIIC Council and its committees were also presented, SMIIC MC Council Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ shared the information that 26 trainings, seminars and workshops organized by the Metrology Council were held in the last year and a total of 600 participants from the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation benefited. At the same time, information was given about the comparisons and the planned R&D Project Program organized for the Council chaired by TÜBİTAK UME.

In accordance with the decision taken at the 11th Meeting of the SMIIC Metrology Council, it was also shared that an organization with the theme of "The Importance of Metrology and its Impact on the Economy" will be held to provide information to the representatives of the relevant ministries of the Council member countries on the development of metrology infrastructures and raising awareness of metrology.  

SMIIC was established in 2010 within the Organization for Cooperation of Islamic Countries (OIC), aiming to develop national quality infrastructures in cooperation in order to eliminate incompatibilities in technical issues that constitute an obstacle to trade among Islamic countries.
