GULFMET (Gulf States Metrology Association) General Assembly and Technical Committee Meetings were held in Istanbul hosted by TÜBİTAK UME between April 23-26, 2018.
In addition to Turkey, representatives from GULFMET member countries Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman attended the Technical Committee Meetings hosted by TÜBİTAK UME for the first time.
In the program, which was held in the form of separate Technical Committee meetings of the activities carried out in the field of metrology in GULFMET member countries, Technical Committee meetings were held on Mass and Derivative Magnitudes, Length, Temperature, Electric - Magnetic - Time and Frequency, Photometer and Radiometer, Chemical Metrology and Quality.
International comparisons, CMC (Measurement and Calibration Capacity) applications and their evaluation, possible scientific R&D activities and collaborations were discussed, as well as the requirements of the Consultative Committee on Measures and Weights (CIPM) and its approach to quality documentation, the approach and general rules of the European Regional Metrology Organization (EURAMET) to Quality Management Systems (QMS), GULFMET CMC and Quality Management System (QMS) general rules and approach.
During the meetings, GULFMET's full membership status to the Joint Committee of Regional Metrology Organizations and BIPM (JCRB) was also discussed, and the activities and reports of GULFMET General Assembly member countries were exchanged. In addition, a visit to TÜBİTAK UME laboratories was organized for the participants on the last day of the meetings.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between TÜBİTAK UME and GSO (Standardization Organization of the Council of Gulf States) in 2011 for the development of GULFMET and its recognition as a regional metrology organization, and TÜBİTAK UME became an associate member of GULFMET in early 2013.
