TÜBİTAK UME hosted MeMeA 2019

The 14th Medical Measurements and Applications Symposium MeMeA 2019, supported by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society, was held at Kadir Has University Cibali campus in Istanbul between June 26-28, 2019 under the leadership of TÜBİTAK UME.

For the first time in its history, MeMeA 2019 Symposium was held in Istanbul, Turkey with the theme of "metrological perspective in medical measurements".

More than 120 scientific papers were presented by 585 authors from academia, industry, government and civil society from 26 different countries from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, including Italy, Turkey, India, Canada, Iran, China, Germany, Morocco, UK, Spain, Romania, Romania, Netherlands, Algeria, Russia, Korea, Poland, New Zealand, Switzerland, Czechia, Belgium, Brazil, Japan, Ireland and Kazakhstan.

%80’i yabancı olmak üzere 130 bilim insanı katılım sağladığı sempozyumda Türkiye adına yapılan 27 bildirinin 20’sine TÜBİTAK UME araştırmacıları imza attı.

The keynote presentations were given by Tobias Schaeffter from the German Metrology Institute (PTB), an expert in the field of medical measurements and applications, on "quantitative measurements in the medical field" and by Zijad Dzemic, Director General of the Metrology Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on "conformity assessment of medical devices within the framework of legal metrology".

In addition, Sandro Carrara from EPFL, Switzerland gave lectures on "ultra-sensitive memristive biosensors" and İrfan Karagöz from Gazi University, Turkey gave lectures on "imaging systems and the effectiveness of physiological imaging systems in the early diagnosis process".

A panel titled "metrological perspective in medical measurements" was also held at the symposium.

As is the tradition at the symposium, one best paper award, one best student paper award, one best female scientist award for engineering papers and one best poster award were given. The best paper award was presented to Prof. Dr. Necla Öztürk from Maltepe University, Turkey, and her team for "Rectus Femoris and Vastus Medialis Muscles Exhibit Different Dynamics in Processing of Isometric Voluntary Contractions: A Fractal Analysis Study".

Selected papers from MeMeA 2019 will be published as a MeMeA 2019 special issue in IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement. In addition, larger versions of the selected papers will be published in IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Magazine.

MeMeA 2019 symposium, where our country and TÜBİTAK UME were effectively introduced, was successfully completed.
