An agreement was reached between TÜBİTAK UME and Sudan Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) for the projects "Establishment of Temperature and Humidity Metrology Laboratory" and "Establishment of Calibration Systems for Medical Calibrators".
The project, which is an important link in terms of cooperation with developing countries in the field of metrology, is worth a total of 1 million 135 thousand USD and envisages the establishment of laboratories and infrastructure in Sudan, as well as providing training and consultancy services to the personnel.
The "Installation of Temperature and Humidity Metrology Laboratory" project, which is the first of two separate installation works to be carried out in two separate areas and is planned to be completed in 24 months, will provide Sudan with the infrastructure to enable the calibration of first and second level dew-point meters and relative humidity meters in the field of Humidity. Upon completion of this project, SSMO will have the capability to calibrate hygrometers and air temperature gauges with low uncertainty in the temperature range of -10 °C to 70 °C and relative humidity range of 10 %rh to 95 %rh. SSMO will also be able to perform calibrations of dew point meters, which are first level instruments, in the dew point temperature range of -30 °C to 60 °C.
At the end of the project, with the establishment of the temperature laboratory, SSMO will be able to calibrate industrial resistance thermometers, digital thermometers, thermocouples, liquid-glass thermometers and temperature-controlled volumes with low uncertainty in the temperature range of -40 °C to 550 °C.
The "Establishment of Calibration Systems for Medical Calibrators" project will be carried out by TUBITAK UME Medical Metrology Laboratory in two phases and in 3 years covering the years 2017-2019. This project covers the installation of high-level calibrators, simulators and analyzers such as Patient Simulator including ECG, Electrical Safety Analyzer, Gas Flow Analyzer including Anesthetic Agents and Oxygen Analyzer, Pulse/Oximeter Analyzer, Incubator Analyzer, Diagnostic Ultrasound Calibrator, Phototherapy Radiometer, Defibrillator Analyzer, Electrosurgical Analyzer, Infusion Pump Analyzer, NIBP Simulator, Lung Simulator, Pressure-Humidity-Temperature Measurement Systems.
Within the scope of both projects, SSMO researchers will receive training and consultancy services both in Turkey and Sudan.
The agreement is a very important development in terms of the prestige of the country and the dissemination of metrology by our country to the world geography. It is also planned that these first projects will be the beginning of the realization of other laboratory establishment proposals given to Sudan in different fields of metrology.
This agreement, which is a proof that the international effectiveness of Turkey and TÜBİTAK UME in the field of metrology is increasing day by day, is aimed to be a reference in terms of increasing the cooperation to be established with countries in the near and neighboring geographies.
