Within the scope of the Türkiye–Hungary 2025 Year of Science and Innovation, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) National Metrology Institute (UME) and Hungary's national metrology authority BFKH – Metrology and Technical Supervisory Department (MMFF) with the aim of advancing strategic cooperation between the two countries in the field of metrology.
The MoU was signed on 8 December 2025 in Istanbul, on the sidelines of the 7th Turkey-Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) meeting held under the auspices of our President and the Prime Minister of Hungary, by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó.
Strategic Partnership in the Field of Metrology
The Memorandum of Understanding signed aims to further strengthen the technical cooperation between TÜBİTAK UME and BFKH MMFF, based on the principles of friendly relations, mutual trust and equality between the two countries. Within the scope of this cooperation:
- Increasing the sharing of knowledge and experience in the field of metrology,
- Encouraging joint R&D activities,
- Strengthening joint visibility on international platforms,
- The development of metrology infrastructures in a mutually complementary manner
It is expected that new and concrete opportunities for cooperation will arise between the two countries in line with their objectives.
Regional Cooperation with TURKMET to Deepen
When the Turkish States Metrology Union (TURKMET), currently in the process of being established, comes into being, it is anticipated that the metrology work carried out with Hungary, an observer member of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), will gain greater momentum within a broader framework. This development is expected to provide new strategic impetus to the regional metrology ecosystem.
A New Era in International Metrology
With this significant agreement, Türkiye and Hungary have established a sustainable, innovative and forward-looking partnership in the field of metrology, taking a critical step towards enhancing the two countries' effectiveness on the global measurement science stage.
