At the meeting held in Istanbul, in addition to Turkey, the representative of the Gulf States Metrology Association (GULFMET), 26 representatives from SMIIC Metrology Council (SMIIC MC) members Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, Iraq, Libya, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and 30 representatives from SMIIC members Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Palestine, Guinea, Cameroon, Egypt, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda and Yemen participated in the meeting via teleconference.
In the meeting where the issues related to the halal product quality infrastructure, production of related reference materials and scientific studies and developments in other metrology fields in the member countries of the SMIIC Metrology Council were discussed, information was given on the possibilities of TÜBİTAK UME, which has a comprehensive infrastructure in this field, the projects it carries out, the domestic and national national national standards it produces, the joint studies that can be carried out with other member countries and the contributions that our country can make to Islamic countries.
Information was given about the revision of the SMIIC MC 2024-2026 Work Plan carried out under the leadership of TÜBİTAK UME and the activities carried out in 2024 within the scope of this plan, the R&D Project Program established by TÜBİTAK UME under the roof of SMIIC MC and other scientific studies.
In the meeting where information on the road map prepared by TÜBİTAK UME for the development of SMIIC MC member countries in the field of scientific metrology, Medical Metrology Working Group Activities and Chemical Sensor Strategies for Biological and Environmental Monitoring were also given, the contributions that the members of the Metrology Council, especially TÜBİTAK UME, could make were evaluated.
In addition, the gains that the Islamic Countries Metrology Center of Excellence (EMCIC), which is planned to be established under the leadership of TÜBİTAK UME and whose project preparations have been completed, will provide to the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the importance of realizing this project were once again emphasized at the meeting.
SMIIC, which aims to develop national quality infrastructures in cooperation in order to eliminate incompatibilities in technical issues that constitute an obstacle to trade among Islamic countries, was established in 2010 within the Organization for Cooperation of Islamic Countries.
