Within the framework of the Joint Project Call for Bilateral Cooperation between TÜBİTAK and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), it was decided to support TÜBİTAK UME's joint research project on "Investigation and Standardization of Laser Durability of Space Qualified Optics".
The partner of the project, which will be implemented by TÜBİTAK UME Thermodynamic Metrology Laboratory under the leadership of Dr. Hümbet NASİBLİ, will be "Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China" (SIOM).
Within the scope of the project, laser damage threshold assessment measurement systems will be developed to determine the durability and working life of space-qualified optics in vacuum (space conditions).
In addition, the durability and working life of space-qualified optics being developed by TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute and other national manufacturers will be measured and evaluated both at TÜBİTAK UME and SIOM, and the measurement results will be compared.
In addition, comparative measurements of the photothermal properties of optical components and their optical coatings developed for high-power lasers and their applications by laser-induced photothermal interferometry will also be carried out by both institutions.
At the end of the studies, measurements of the photothermal properties of these optical components and their coatings will be performed reliably at TÜBİTAK UME Thermodynamic Metrology Laboratory.
The project, which will start before the end of 2021, is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
