Within the scope of the studies carried out together with the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), officials from the Japan Space Research Agency (JAXA) visited TÜBİTAK UME on May 24, 2022 under the leadership of TUA for possible collaborations especially for the Regional Positioning and Timing System (BKZS), the 3rd strategic goal of the Turkish National Space Program.
Satoshi KOGURE, Chief Specialist for Satellite Navigation and Space Technologies at JAXA, Takehiro NAKAMURA, JAXA Bangkok Office Manager, Ali BAYGELDİ, Head of the Department of Space Systems and Vehicles at TUA, Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ, Deputy Director of TÜBİTAK UME, as well as researchers from TUA and TÜBİTAK UME attended the meeting held during the visit.
At the meeting, where mutual information was exchanged on possible cooperation on atomic clocks used in the Regional Positioning and Timing System (QZSS) owned by Japan, it was agreed that the relations should be increased with the participation of other institutions, especially the Japan Institute of Metrology (NICT), as it is thought that it will contribute to the increase of trained manpower in our country's space studies and will provide a significant acceleration to the development of space-qualified systems.
At the end of the meeting, a laboratory visit was organized to provide information about TÜBİTAK UME's laboratory capacity.
