Serdar Hüseyin YILDIRIM, President of the Turkish Space Agency, visited TÜBİTAK UME on August 24, 2020 to examine the work carried out specifically on the atomic clock.

During the visit, it was decided to sign a protocol between TÜBİTAK UME and the Turkish Space Agency, which includes the work that can be carried out for the agency within the scope of the institute's capabilities.

In addition, it was decided that it would be useful to make a project to deploy a miniature Rb atomic clock by TÜBİTAK UME as a payload to the KÜPSAT satellite and to provide a history of TÜBİTAK UME atomic clock making studies.

President YILDIRIM, who gave the good news that the work on space-qualification of the classical Rb atomic clock completed by TÜBİTAK UME will be supported by the Turkish Space Agency and stated that the institute's work in this field is extremely important for them, was also informed about the Sr Optical Atomic Clock project under construction at TÜBİTAK UME in accordance with the decision expected to be taken by the CGPM (General Conference on Weights and Measures) in 2026 within the scope of "redefining the time unit second".
