Memorandum of Cooperation with Sudan Standards and Metrology Organization

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between TÜBİTAK UME and Sudan Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) on 21 January 2014.

TSE President Mr. Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed during the visit of Mr. Hulusi ŞENTÜRK, President of TSE and Dr. Fatih ÜSTÜNER, Director of TÜBİTAK UME to Sudan, UME and SSMO will cooperate in the field of measurement science. TÜBİTAK UME will provide training and consultancy services to SSMO within the scope of strengthening Sudan's quality infrastructure.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation and a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) Implementation Program were signed between the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) and the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO). Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed during the visit of TSE and the accompanying delegation to Sudan, TSE and SSMO will cooperate in the fields of standardization, conformity assessment, inspection, testing and calibration. In addition, with the PSI Implementation Program signed between the parties, TSE has been authorized to carry out testing, conformity assessment certification and pre-loading inspection services on behalf of SSMO for products subject to mandatory inspection to be exported from Turkey or third countries to Sudan.

Within the scope of the visit of TSE and TÜBİTAK UME Delegation to Sudan, an informative meeting was organized at the Turkish - Sudanese Businessmen Association on the activities of TSE and UME. During the visit to Sudan, meetings were held with the Sudanese Cabinet Minister Ahmet Saad Ömer Khidir and Abdalla Hassan Eisa, Director General of SSMO, and SSMO laboratories were visited.

30 milyonluk nüfusu ve 1.900.000 m2 civarındaki yüzölçümüyle Afrika’nın büyük ve önemli ülkelerinden olan Sudan’ın ekonomisi tarıma ve petrol ihracatına dayalıdır. Her ne kadar petrol rezervinin %80’lik kısmını 2011 yılında Güney Sudan’ın ayrılmasıyla kaybetmekle beraber petrolün dış pazarlara sevkiyatı açısından stratejik önemini korumaya devam eden Sudan büyük bir gelişme potansiyelini içinde barındırmaktadır. Sudan’ın önemli yerleşim merkezleri, Nil nehrinin iki büyük kolunun (Mavi Nil ve Beyaz Nil) birleştiği noktada yer alan Hartum ve Kızıldeniz’e açılan limanı Port Sudan’dır.
