Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hikmet ÜÇIŞIK gave a seminar at TÜBİTAK UME

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hikmet ÜÇIŞIK, one of the doyens of the Turkish Science world, was the guest of TÜBİTAK UME with a seminar on the role of relevant institutions in the advancement of science and technology.

The seminar titled "THE ROLE of INSTITUTIONS (with the IDEAS and AMBITIONS) on the ADVANCEMENT of SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY" given by Prof. Dr. ÜÇIŞIK on February 1, 2017 at TÜBİTAK UME Conference Hall was attended by many researchers working at TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus.

During his more than 40 years of professional life, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hikmet ÜÇIŞIK, who has been working on advanced technology topics such as advanced ceramics, titanium alloy, aluminum alloy, high heat fatigue, biological materials, technology transfer, wear problems in steel, rolling mill simulations, shared his experiences with TÜBİTAK researchers in his seminar, which attracted great interest.

Before the seminar, Prof. Dr. ÜÇIŞIK was informed about the working areas of the institute by making a presentation of TÜBİTAK UME and also made a technical visit to UME laboratories.

Who is Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hikmet ÜÇIŞIK?
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hikmet Üçışık graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Metallurgical Engineering as a Master Engineer after graduating from Istanbul Vefa High School. He continued his education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of Pennsylvania in the United States.

He was promoted to Associate Professor and Professor at Istanbul Technical University. He is a founding faculty member of the Faculty of Metallurgical Engineering, the Faculty of Chemistry-Metallurgy, the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Bioengineering Research Center, and the Institute of Science and Technology at Istanbul Technical University. In Turkey, he gave lectures and directed theses at ITU and Boğaziçi University for a long time, and briefly at Marmara University School of Sports, Ege University, Uludağ University. After working as the Head of the Department of "Prosthesis-Materials-Artificial Organs" at the Institute of Bio-Medical Engineering at Boğaziçi University for 25 years, he left this position.

He served as "Director" of TUBITAK Marmara Research Center and "Founding Rector" of Gebze Institute of Technology. He was a member of the "General Board of the Turkish Standards Institute" and a member of the "GAP Coordination Board" during the State Ministry of Mr. Dr. Kamran Inan. He was a member of the "NATO AGARD Structures and Materials Panel". He worked as a Visiting Professor at McGill University in Canada, University of Pennsylvania, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University in the United States, Universitaet des Saarlandes in Germany, Osaka University in Japan, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan, National University of Singapore in Singapore.

He is a member of Gesellschaft für Metallkunde, American Society for Metals, The Japanese Society for Dental Materials, Japanese Society for Medical Electronics and Biological Engineers, Orthopedic Research Society, Materials Research Society, American Ceramic Society, American Association of Advancement of Science and New York Academy of Sciences, Islamic World Academy of Sciences. He is listed in Who is Who in the World, Who is Who in America, Who is Who in Engineers.

He has participated in international meetings and delivered papers in the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, England, Japan, Korea, Greece, Bosnia, Russia (Tatarstan), China, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bengaldeş, Spain, Portugal, Jordan, Morocco, Senegal, Brazil, Sudan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia. He is fluent in English, German, Arabic, Persian, Malay, Japanese, Russian and Chinese.
Engineering Materials, Biological Materials and the development of artificial materials that can substitute them, Technology production and Technology policy have been part of his professional career.

He is currently a visiting professor at Harvard University, Osaka University, L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at various times of the year. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Atılım University. Since December 1, 2016, he has been the advisor to the General Manager at Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI).
