The 1 millionth liter of the 'national marker' produced by TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute (UME) to prevent fuel smuggling was delivered at a ceremony.

On March 1, TÜBİTAK UME Director Dr. Fatih Üstüner, EMRA Petroleum Market Department Head Taner Mutlu, officials from both institutions and representatives of oil distribution companies attended the ceremony held at TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus. During the ceremony, the 1 millionth liter of national marker was delivered to TÜPRAŞ.

The opening speech was delivered by Dr. Fatih Üstüner, Director of UME, followed by presentations on "Recent Developments in National Marker Legislation and General Evaluation" by Taner Mutlu, Head of Petroleum Market Department of Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) and "National Marker Audits" by İbrahim Halil Dere, Head of Audit Department Group of EMRA. Afterwards, National Marker Project Coordinator Assoc. Following the ceremony, the 1 Millionth Liter of National Marker was delivered at the National Marker Production and Distribution Facility. The program ended with a visit to UME Chemistry Laboratories and BİLGEM National Marker Laboratory.

With the protocol signed between EMRA and TÜBİTAK UME in 2006, national marker is being developed entirely with domestic facilities. The national marker produced at UME Chemistry Laboratories is used to prevent fuel smuggling, increase tax revenues and prevent damage to vehicles due to inappropriate fuel.
