Dr. Alper ELKATMIŞ (Head of Laboratory)
He graduated with honors as the best student from the Engineering Physics Department of Ankara University in 1995, then completed one-year-english-language-training in the preparatory school of İstanbul Technical University in 1996. He received his M.Sc. degree from the Engineering Physics Department of İstanbul Technical University in 1999 and Ph.D. degree from Yeditepe University, İstanbul, Physics Program, in 2011. He worked as a part-time researcher at TÜBİTAK Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute in 1997. Between 1997 and 2003, he worked as a researcher at TÜBİTAK UME Pressure and Vacuum Laboratory. Between 2003 and 2011, he worked as a researcher and senior researcher at TÜBİTAK UME High Gas Flowrate and Air Velocity Sections of Fluid Group Laboratory. In 2005, he worked as a guest researcher at FCRI-Fluid Control and Research Institute (India) and participated in the international training program titled "Gas, Liquid Flow Measurements and Control Techniques" with a scholarship. In this scope, he completed his project on "Investigation of Screen Effect in Wind Tunnel". As of 2012, he returned to TÜBİTAK UME Vacuum Laboratory, where he continues to work as a Senior Principal Researcher.
He has participated in various international and national comparisons organized in the field of Vacuum, Pressure and Fluid measurement science. In the project "Vacuum Metrology for Industrial Applications" organized within the scope of the European Metrology Research Program (EMRP), he was the task leader of "Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer (QMS) stability studies" in which seven European countries participated. He contributes to the field of metrology with his international, national and in-house publications and refereeing duties in various scientific journals indexed in international indexes. He is the representative of TÜBİTAK UME in the IMEKO International Confederation of Measurement TC16 Technical Committee on Pressure and Vacuum Measurements and the Consultative Committee on Mass and Derived Units Pressure and Vacuum Working Group (CCM WGPV).
Yusuf ÇALKIN
Yusuf Çalkın graduated from the Department of Physics at the Middle East Technical University in 1996. He worked in the Pressure and Vacuum Laboratories of TÜBİTAK UME as researcher between 1997 and 2003, after which he transferred to the Optics Laboratories as a senior researcher. He has worked on techniques of optical measurements of photometric quantities, optical characterization of photometer heads, advanced theoretical and practical aspects of optical measurements, photometric calibrations (Luminous Intensity, Illuminance, Total Luminous flux, Luminance), modification and maintenance of the integrating sphere for performance of luminous flux calibrations, periodic calibration of the laboratory standards (standard lamps, illuminance responsivity of photometer heads, Illuminance meters) and also international comparisons related to luminous intensity standard lamps and luminous responsivity of photometer heads. He has also taken part in EMRP projects in which the laboratory participates as a partner.
During his time working in the Pressure Laboratories, he worked on the establishment, test and calibration of pressure devices at absolute, gauge and differential modes, operation of dead weight testers, pressure balances, transducers, transmitters and calibration software techniques and also International comparisons related with pressure standards in hydraulic and pneumatic modes. He is qualified in AFMETCAL (US Air Force metrological calibration Laboratory), PMEL (Primary Metrology Procedures) and various calibrations of pressure and optical standards performed according to technical orders and standards. As of November 2019, he continues his studies as a chief researcher at TÜBİTAK UME Vacuum Laboratory.
