The Director of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), Dr. Martin Milton, visited TÜBİTAK UME to discuss possible cooperation on a training program aimed at developing metrology institutes within the framework of the BIPM’s Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer (CBKT) Programme.
Also joined by Mr. Andy Henson, the Director of International Liaison and Communications Department of the BIPM, the visit centered on the proposal made by TÜBİTAK UME to offer one to three month training opportunities to the staff of developing metrology institutes as a contribution to the CBKT Programme, the aim of which is stated as “to increase the effectiveness within the world-wide metrology community of those Member State and Associates with emerging metrology systems”.
TÜBİTAK UME views the prospect of cooperation with the BIPM in offering training as part of the CBKT Programme as an opportunity to contribute to the development and strengthening of the world metrology system while increasing its profile internationally.
The visit included a tour of TÜBİTAK UME’s laboratories and presentation of its technical capabilities and concluded with a view towards continuing communications on the development of the proposed training programme with the target of initiating the programme in 2018.
