Surface texture and form of products are important features to be examined and numerically characterised as parameters for engineering and scientific purposes. Such features of surfaces have great impacts on wear resistance, bearing, sliding and lubricating properties, fatigue and corrosion resistance, functionality, etc. Form and surface measurement devices with contact probes and stylus are used to characterise such surfaces.
Traceability issues for contact probe and stylus instrument measurements were addressed in the 18RPT01 ProbeTrace project (consisting of 10 project partners) supported under the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP). Novel methods for calibration of form and surface measurement devices studied for assurance of traceability to SI unit metre will be presented by the project partners in Belgrade 16 May 2023.
