BIPM – TÜBİTAK UME Project Placement Programme is extended for another 2 years

BIPM - TÜBİTAK UME Project Placement Program, implemented in cooperation between TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM,  was decided to continue for another 2 years.

After the successful completion of the 2021 cycle of "BIPM-TÜBİTAK UME Project Placements" program, which started in 2018 in cooperation between TÜBİTAK UME and BIPM (International Bureau of Weights and Measures), it was decided to extend the program for another 2 years for 2022 and 2023.

TÜBİTAK UME provided training to 37 young researchers of developing country’s metrology institutes for 1 to 3 months in its laboratories in various metrology fields, in order to contribute to the integration of participating researchers' institutes and therefore their countries into the international system.

The program, which also means the recognition of TÜBİTAK UME's competence in the world of metrology and focuses on helping young technical researchers to achieve their project goals, also aimed to provide a wider benefit by allowing participants to develop their technical skills.

After the successful completion of the 2018 and 2019 cycles with the participation of 20 researchers, it was decided to extend the program for 2 more years upon the request from BIPM. A total of 7 researchers from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa out of 10 researchers who were entitled to participate in the program in 2020 were able to participate in the program on-site due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The  2020 cycle of the program was completed earlier than planned due to the worsening of the pandemic conditions.

As a result of the evaluation made for the 2021 cycle of the program, 10 researchers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Philippines, Kenya, Colombia, Russia, Sudan, Thailand and Tunisia were entitled to receive on-site training in metrology for 1 to 3 months, the training program was implemented despite the COVID-19 pandemic conditions.

Term for applications for the 2022 cycle of the program, which continued successfully for 4 years and whose duration was extended for another 2 years in line with the official request from BIPM, started on 8 February 2022. After the evaluations and the selection of the researchers, the program is planned to start in September 2022.

The success of this training program, which has made an extraordinary contribution to the integration of developing country institutes into the international system and carried out jointly with BIPM for 4 years, also carries an important prestige value in terms of reinforcing TÜBİTAK UME's place in the "champions league" category of the metrology world.
