A training session on the subject of chemical metrology was organized at TÜBİTAK UME as part of the TrainMic (Training in Metrology in Chemistry) programme which aims to increase the quality of chemical and bio-analytical measurements.
The training session, the seventh session within the TrainMic programme in Turkey, was held on December 19-20. Topics included in the training were traceability, selection and utilization of reference materials, sample taking as part of the measurement procedure, statistics for analytical chemistry, validation of measurement procedures, internal quality control, and the principles and approaches to calculation of measurement uncertainty, all of which pertain to quality issues that must be addressed as part of the harmonization process with EU legislation and to the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. 19 trainees from 10 institutions, engaged in the fields of food science, the environment, health, textiles and education were present at the training session.
The TrainMic program is administered by the Joint Research Center - Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (JRC-IRMM) of the European Commission. The training sessions are organized by national teams in each of the countries where the program is implemented. In Turkey, TÜBİTAK UME has been responsible for the organization of TrainMic sessions.
