TÜBİTAK UME Attended 22nd SMIIC Board of Directors and 16th General Assembly Meeting.

The 22nd Board of Directors and 16th General Assembly Meeting of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) was held in Al-Madinah, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 1-2 November 2021.

Representing Turkey, TÜBİTAK UME Director Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ, TSE President Prof. Dr. Adem ŞAHİN and Chairman of Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) Zafer SOYLU attended the meeting.

Information on SMIIC Metrology Council (SMIIC MC) , chaired by TÜBİTAK UME, its activities in 2021 and future plans were shared by the chairman of the council, Dr. Mustafa ÇETİNTAŞ.

In addition, information on The Excellence Metrology Center of Islamic Countries (EMCIC) was presented in the meeting. EMCIC is planning to be established under the leadership of TÜBİTAK UME with the objective of establishment of uniformity in measurements carried out in the member countries of the Organization of Cooperation of Islamic Countries (OIC) and facilitating integration of member countries infrastructure into the international measurement system, the development and certification of halal product testing methods, overcoming technical barriers in trade, R&D activities and technology development.

İhsan ÖVÜT, nominated by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), for the Secretary General of SMIIC, of ​​which Turkey is a permanent member, was re-elected for the 2022-2024 term. At the Board of Directors meeting, it was decided to represent SMIIC in the Standardization Council by TSE and in the Accreditation Council by the Halal Accreditation Agency.

SMIIC, which aims cooperative development of national quality infrastructures  in order to eliminate incompatibilities in technical issues that prevent trade between Islamic countries, was established in 2010 within the OIC.
