TÜBİTAK UME Completes N-Type Microcalorimeter Project

The project to develop an N-type Microcalorimeter for the National Institute of Standards (NIS) of Egypt undertaken by the TÜBİTAK UME RF and Microwave Laboratory was formally completed with the delivery and on-site installation of the Microcalorimeter system at NIS.
In the scope of the project, the design, production, functional tests of one N-type (10 MHz-18 GHz) Microcalorimeter was successfully completed and delivered to NIS along with user training. The RAMNT company of Egypt acted as an intermediary between TÜBİTAK UME and NIS throughout the project.
The ceremony marking the successful completion of the project was attended by RAMNT managers, the president of NIS, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Amer; head of the NIS RF and Microwave Laboratory and its personnel, leader of the Microcalorimeter project, Dr. Murat Celep and TÜBİTAK UME researchers.
With the project, TÜBİTAK UME designed and produced a primary level Microcalorimeter system for the use of another national metrology institute using its own cabilities for the first time.

Microcalorimeters are primary level systems that are used to calibrate power sensors utilized for primary level RF power measurements. These systems are not commercially available and are instead produced by large national metrology institutes, such as NPL (UK), PTB (Germany), LNE (France), INRiM (Italy) and NIST (USA).  They are custom made to suit the particular needs of the laboratory for which they are produced as they can differ in the types of connectors and power sensors used.
