TÜBİTAK UME hosted the 12th annual meeting of the COOMET Technical Committee 1.5 “Length and Angle.” The meeting of the committee, of which TÜBİTAK UME is a member, was held between the dates of September 30 and October 1, 2015, at Kalyon Hotel in Istanbul.  Representatives from Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Russia, and Belarus, in addition to Turkey, attended the meeting.

The meeting, held annually and attended by experts from COOMET member states, is an opportunity to discuss developments in the fields of length and angle measurements, ongoing and planned interlaboratory measurement comparisons and other cooperative initiatives. During the meeting, each of the attendees presented the activities of their own laboratories in the areas of length metrology. TÜBİTAK UME’s Time, Frequency and Wavelength Laboratory and Dimensional Laboratory was also presented.

A laboratory visit organized after the end of the meeting on October 2 provided the opportunity to provide information to participants on TÜBİTAK UME’s infrastructure and measurement capabilities.

The technical committee meeting was significant in that it was the first such meeting organized by TÜBİTAK UME after it became an associate member of COOMET, which is a a regional metrology organization encompassing Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus and the Turkic states of Central Asia.

With its infrastructure, experienced staff and geographic location, TÜBİTAK UME has the potential to become a bridge between the regional metrology organizations of EURAMET and COOMET and aims to increase its contacts and cooperation with its member states’ metrology institutes in the years ahead.
