TÜBİTAK UME organized the Metrology Session held as part of the ASEAN-EU STI Days held in Thailand in January 2014 with the aim of increasing scientific cooperation between ASEAN and EU member countries.
The Metrology Session organized by TÜBİTAK UME was part of the ASEAN-EU STI days, which was a deliverable of the SEA-EU-NET 2 (ASEAN-EU Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation
Jointly Tackling Global Challenges) project supported through the 7th Framework Programme of the EU. Dr. Tanfer Yandayan, Senior Researcher at TÜBİTAK UME, and Dr. Kamal Hossein, Chairperson of EURAMET and Research and International Director at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) of the United Kingdom, gave presentations on topics including the current state of metrology and the EU funded metrology research programs EMRP and EMPIR. During the workshop, the President of NSTDA, Thailand’s public research and development agency, the Director of the National Institute of Metrology (NIMT) of Thailand, the Chairperson of EURAMET held a discussion session moderated by TÜBİTAK UME on possible collaborative activities towards the establishment of regional metrology cooperation initiative in Southeast Asia.
Dr. Tanfer Yandayan, also gave a presentation on opportunities available to Southeastern Asian researchers in in the EU supported metrology research programs as part of a workshop for Southeastern Asian researchers organized by EURAXESS, an initiative of the European Commission. The aim of the SEA-EU-NET 2 project is to build upon and leverage strong Europe-Southeast Asia S&T relationships developed through past support and coordination actions, to deepen engagement and build momentum in S&T cooperation. Within the project, TÜBİTAK UME, representing European national metrology instititutes, is contributing to the goals of the project through collaboration with the SIRIM Berhad, the national metrology institute of Malaysia, to foster greater EU-ASEAN cooperation in the area of metrology research activities. SEA-EU-NET 2, an FP7 International Cooperation (Inco) action, started in 2012 and will end in 2016.
