TÜBİTAK UME Boosts International Visibility in the Halal Product Field

The presentation of the results of the project will take place at the Halal Expo 2023-World Halal Summit, scheduled to be held from November 23 to 26, 2023. The project, funded by COMCEC and involving TÜBİTAK UME, aims to enhance expertise in Halal Food and Meat Detection Methods and facilitate interlaboratory comparisons for the member countries of the OIC.

As part of the project, TÜBİTAK UME took on the responsibility of the practical training on Halal Food and Meat Detection Methods, the production of interlaboratory comparison materials, and their distribution to participating laboratories. The training program was conducted by the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) from October 23 to 26, 2023.

During the program held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, TÜBİTAK UME provided practical training to approximately 100 participants representing 15 laboratories from 10 member countries of the OIC, including Türkiye, Indonesia, Morocco, Iraq, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Jordan. The training focused on the detection of non-halal substances in food, meat, processed meat, and gelatin.

The project's goal is to distribute proficiency test materials and kits related to halal testing to participating laboratories. The conclusion of the project is planned to be marked by an international conference held online in Istanbul at the end of November.

For TÜBİTAK UME, which continues to support the functioning of the halal sector with the responsibility of being a leading institution in the field of metrology in the country, this project holds prestige value in demonstrating its competence on the international stage.
