Muharrem AŞAR (Head of Laboratory)
Muharrem Aşar received his B.Sc degree from the Middle East Technical University Department of Physics in 1999. He has worked in Abant İzzet Baysal University as a research assistant between 1996 and 1997. In 1997, he received a full scholarship from the Ministry of National Education to pursue higher education abroad, and received his M.A. degree from the University of Southern California Department of Physics in 1999. In 2005, he received his Ph.D. degree in physics from North Carolina State University Department of Physics with his thesis title “Anisotropy Effects in Real-Time Optical Diagnostics of Epitaxial Growth and Associated Metrology Instrumentation”. He joined TUBITAK UME in 2005 and he has been working at the TUBİTAK UME Dimensional Laboratory as a principle researcher in the areas related to surface roughness and nanometrology. He is the head of laboratory since 2016 and represents TUBİTAK UME on the EURAMET Technical Committee for Length (TC-L) and Consultative Committee for Length (BIPM CCL) and Working Groups WG-MRA and WG-N.
Sibel Aslı AKGÖZ
Sibel Aslı Akgöz completed her degree in Engineering Physics at Istanbul Technical University in 1996. She started working as a researcher in Dimensional Lab of UME in 1997.
She works in calibration of angle standards and calibration of gauge blocks by interferometry and mechanical comparison. She has been involved in the development of a new method for calibration of angle standards with Tanfer Yandayan as well as establishment of facilities and services for gauge block and angle metrology including the production of comprehensive training documents and papers for the first time in Turkey. She has taken part in the international comparisons of the dimensional laboratory and conducted the first intercomparison measurements in Turkey for short and long gauge blocks as a pilot. She is an assessor of TÜRKAK and carries out research activities in gauge block and angle metrology.
Gökçen BOZKURT
Gökçen Bozkurt graduated from Mustafa Kemal University, Antakya Technical College Industrial Electronics Division.
She joined TUBİTAK UME in 2008 as a technician in the Force Group Torque Laboratory. She worked in the KAMAG 1007 TSE Project, whose subject was to construct dead weighted torque calibration devices and back-to-back calibration systems with 50 Nm and 1000 Nm capacities for the Turkish Standards Institute. She contributed to the project by designing and installing electrical panels for the equipment and took part in the disassembling and reassembling of these systems, assisting in the establishment of a newly founded torque laboratory demanded by TSE.
In 2012, she started working in the Dimensional Laboratory. She is working on dimensional measurements particularly on basic dimensional devices, universal measurements, form measurements, 5m bench and stage micrometer calibrations.
Murat AKSULU
Dr. Murat Aksulu received his B.Sc degree from Istanbul Technical University Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1990. In 1993 he completed MSc program in mechanical engineering in Istanbul Technical University. He received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Istanbul Technical University with his thesis title “Effect of counterface roughness on the wear of polymers”. Since 1996, he has been working at TUBİTAK UME Dimensional Laboratory in the areas related to surface roughness measurements and form measurements.
Tanfer YANDAYAN
He received his Ph.D. degree at the University of Manchester, Mechanical Engineering Department with a research thesis entitled “A Laser Doppler System for In-process Measurement of Diameters on CNC Turning Machines” in November 1996 and started working in TUBITAK UME in 1997. He headed the dimensional lab of TUBITAK UME for 15 years and expanded the number of calibration services from a few to over 100. He was the first representative of Turkey to the length technical committees in EURAMET and CCL of CIPM. He was in charge of participation in the first length intercomparison measurements, publication of the first CMC entries, expansion of laboratory premises and capacities, training programmes, and accreditation of dimensional lab services by the Turkish Accreditation Body – TURKAK. He implemented the dimensional metrology aspects of three development projects funded by World Bank and German Cooperation (PTB) for the establishment of new facilities and training of lab personnel. He also took part during establishment of Turkish accreditation system, representing TUBITAK UME on different committees and performed the first calibration laboratory assessments for TURKAK in addition to assessments for EURAMET. He became Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering with his academic work in 2006. He left the head position of dimensional laboratory to concentrate more on metrology research work. In 2012, he initiated an angle metrology research topic under the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) SI call and brought a large number of partners from different nations together to establish a consortium for the SIB58 ANGLES (Angle Metrology) project. With the approval of the SIB58 ANGLES project, he will coordinate the scientific research work on angle metrology between September 2013-2016. Additionally, he also works for facilitation of scientific activities between Europe and South East Asia (SEA). After completing SEA-EU-NET 1 project supported under Fp7 defining the capabilities of SEA countries in metrology, he now works on SEA-EU-NET 2 project for establishment of cooperation between Europe and SEA countries in metrology for the years of 2012-2016. He covers almost all areas of dimensional metrology but performed more research work in angle metrology, gauge blocks, line scale, interferometry, diameter and form measurements.
