The Dimensional Laboratories are aiming to meet the demands of future industrial applications in Turkey as well as the current ones. Extension of the current measurement services is planned for the future and some research activities are undergoing. Establishment of some new measurement systems are planned as follows:
Dimensional and related calibrations are performed at 20°C. UME dimensional metrology facilities are maintained with the temperature at (20,0 ± 0,3)°C and relative humidity controlled to (45 ± 5)%
Due to the differing natures of properties of dimensional standards, there are a correspondingly large number of metrological facilities and great variety of measuring instruments available in the TÜBİTAK UME Dimensional Laboratory.
The main interest of the Dimensional Laboratory is to maintain the primary standard for the unit of length and to disseminate traceability for dimensional measurements. The metre, one of the fundamental SI units, was redefined in 1983 as “the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299 792 458 of a second”. This definition has been realized in the TÜBİTAK UME Wavelength Laboratory with reference stabilized lasers.
