Fluid Flow Laboratories

One of the main duties of UME is to establish and make available the national primary standards in accordance with the country's needs. In parallel with this mission, the Fluid Flow Laboratories expand the capacities of existing systems or establish new systems when necessary, based on developments within the country and the demands of stakeholders.

In addition to calibration and testing activities, the laboratories also strive to meet non-calibration-related measurement, system development, and consultancy requests from industry as much as possible. Furthermore, they actively participate in national and international projects related to flow measurement.

Acoustics Laboratory

The main purpose of the UME Acoustics Laboratory is to establish, maintain and develop the standards of measurement quantities in the fields of acoustics, vibration and gravitational acceleration at the primary level, to integrate them into the international metrology system through international comparisons and to establish measurement unity by providing traceability to lower level laboratories established within or outside the country with the calibration, measurement and test services provided. Another aim of the laboratory is to produce research projects in the fields of laboratory activities in line with the needs of the country and the demands of its stakeholders.

Pressure Laboratory

It is the creation, realization and maintenance of the pressure scale in our country using the national pressure standard devices in the laboratory and the distribution of metrological traceability in the field of pressure to the relevant laboratories in the country.

Dimensional Laboratory

The working areas of the Dimensional Laboratory are related to the meter, the measure of length. The meter is the SI unit, redefined in 1983 as the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299 792 458 seconds. This unit is obtained by stable lasers in the UME Time-Frequency and Wavelength Laboratory. The Dimensional Laboratory aims to achieve traceability by comparing laser interferometers used for measurement purposes with these stable lasers and to provide the best measurement uncertainties through reference measurement devices and transfer standards, and to transfer the length unit meter and angle unit radians to the industry.

Electrodynamics Laboratory

Electrodynamics Laboratory consists of two sub-laboratories, Kibble Balance and Plasma.

The Kibble Balance Laboratory was established to establish the "National Kilogram Prototype", to integrate it into the international metrology system through international comparisons and to ensure mass measurement unity by providing primary level mass calibration services.

The aim of the Plasma Laboratory, which is in the establishment phase, is to first establish the infrastructure of plasma metrology, a new field in metrology, and then contribute to the development of plasma-related technologies.

Volume, Density and Viscosity Laboratory

Traceability is transferred to measurements in single-channel piston pipettes and burettes, glass volume containers and metal volume containers by gravimetric measurement method using primary level standards created by the Volume Laboratory.

The traceability of hydrometers is ensured by the Cuckow method using primary level standards created by the Density Laboratory. Oscillation type density meter calibration is performed and liquid densities are determined using this device. In addition, the density values of various liquids can be determined with high accuracy using the primary level density measurement system.

Force Laboratory

TÜBİTAK UME Force Laboratory consists of three sub-laboratories: Force, Hardness and Torque. The laboratory undertakes the task of establishing, maintaining and transferring national force, stiffness and torque scales to industry and other users with the highest accuracy. In this context, it ensures international traceability of measurements, provides reliable calibration services required by the industry and contributes to scientific research in the field of measurement.

Mass and Solid Volume/Density Laboratory

The main purpose of the Mass and Solid Volume/Density Laboratory is to secure the mass and solid volume and density measurements made in our country, to ensure the integration of these measurements into the international system, and to develop new measurement techniques compatible with developing technologies.

Our laboratory carries out calibration, testing, consultancy, training and technology transfer services and R&D activities in the field of mass metrology.

Vacuum Laboratory

The Vacuum Laboratory serves in the field of vacuum measurement science. Its main purpose is to provide the pressure unit pascal (Pa), which is derived from the international system of units SI basic units, at the primary level with absolute pressure (vacuum) measurements. Its main tasks are to establish, maintain and develop the relevant vacuum measurement standards/systems, to be included in the international measurement system through international comparisons and to ensure traceability within the country with the services it provides.
