A Quantum Standard for Sampled Electrical Measurements

Once an electrical signal has been digitized using data converters, quantities such as RMS value, peak value, and harmonic content can be calculated from the digital data. Development in the precision integrated circuits has brought about a step change in the sampling rates and accuracy of data converters. However, the present AC voltage metrology which only identifies the rms value of the signal does not keeping pace with requirements of digital metrology. This project aims to establish direct traceability for AC voltages to the quantum standard of voltage based on the Josephson effect for testing data converters according to digital metrology needs.

In this project TÜBİTAK UME is planning:

  • To identify and analyze possible error sources in metrology grade signal generation and measurement using sampling techniques
  • To support developing DAC based synthesizer and test bench for high frequency ADC converters by developing software and hardware.
  • To support the validation of sampling techniques with measurement results by measuring DAC based synthesizers with thermal transfer techniques.
